MA Authorizations
Starting 1/1/2023, the MN Department of Human Services (DHS) has suspended authorization thresholds or service limitations for therapy services provided to clients on Medical Assistance (MA).
Providers historically had to submit authorization requests for services exceeding 26 sessions of individual therapy, 26 sessions of family therapy, 52 sessions of group therapy, or 10 sessions of group family therapy.
Providers will no longer have to submit these requests for MA clients between Jan. 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2024. During this time the DHS will work to better understand how these therapy services are utilized by MA clients.
